Obituary of Mike Fletcher

Please share a memory of Mike to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Michael Kimbrough Fletcher was born near Cleveland, OH on April 11, 1970.  Following a couple of early moves, Mike’s family relocated to Marietta, GA in 1976 where he attended Murdock Elementary School, East Cobb Middle School, and Wheeler High, where he graduated with the Class of 1988. Mike was a member of East Side Baptist church where he was baptized. In high school, Mike was very active in athletics, lettering in varsity baseball and football.  Mike was also a member of the Wheeler Key Club.  Mike went on to attend Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC where he was on the football team for two seasons.  At PC, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity (PIKE) where he had a great many friends and brothers that loved him dearly.  Mike graduated from Presbyterian in 1993 with a BS in Business Administration.

Following college, Mike began his business career with NCH Corp in Atlanta.  Later, he joined Delta Chemical Company in Longview, TX, where he served for a couple of years as a Field Sales Rep in Northern Louisiana.  At about this same time, Mike decided to contact an old hometown flame, Beth Derketsch.  The result is Beth and Mike were married on May 24, 1997.  Having migrated from industrial sales into the IT field, Mike started working for Delta Airlines shortly after he and Beth married.  Samantha Bess, their first daughter, was born in 2000.  Shortly thereafter, they moved into their first house in Norcross, GA where they resided for about 5 years.  The family moved into their present home in Dacula, GA in 2004, and, in that same year, their second daughter, Katherine Carter was born.  For the next several years, Mike excelled in his IT career, where he had found his career niche.

Unfortunately, in 2016, Mike began his battle with a variety of personal health-related issues which had a major impact on him.  While he was dealing with those issues, he very clearly saw the path where he wanted to take his life.  The result is he took initial steps forward in the pursuit of his life-long dream of becoming a Registered Nurse.  This ambition was so beautifully suited for Mike as it would afford him further opportunities to utilize his caring passion for helping other people in need of support and assistance. With his dream clearly in front of him, he enrolled in the Georgia Gwinnett College and began acquiring the needed pre-requisites for moving forward into nursing school.  During this past school year, Mike was named to the College’s Dean List for academic achievement.

Mike passed away on May 19, 2019 at the age of 49.  Mike is survived by his Mother, Sandi Fletcher; Father, Kim Fletcher; his wife, Beth Derketsch Fletcher; his 2 daughters, Samantha and Katie Fletcher; his sister and brother-in-law, Dawn and Bobby Duerr; a niece, Olivia Duerr and a nephew, Dylan Duerr.

Mike Fletcher will always be remembered by those who he knew, and those that he met, as the most caring, selfless, giving, person you could ever know.  He always put others first, before himself, in his life.
