Please share a memory of Margarete to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margarete Pauline Luke, 82, entered the Kingdom of Heaven around 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2004. Although her death was both sudden and unexpected, she passed away, peacefully, in her sleep.
Mrs. Luke, a proud American Polock, was born in Krakow, Poland, June 29, 1921. She married Sergeant First Class Preston Hugh Luke (US Army-Ret - preceded her in death in August 1976) in October 1957. He liked to tell the story of his re-enlistment into service after a discharge in 1957 in order to return to Europe to marry her. She was a dedicated army wife through station assignments in Germany, Kansas, Texas, and then a homemaker after his retirement from military service and move into the civilian work force, settling in Albany, Georgia.
Along with her 21 years of being a childcare provider for many different families, she raised her own children in a loving, nurturing home full of love and care. Though all three of her sons were born with a severe disability (hemophilia), she never complained or shrugged her duties and responsibilities. Their pain was her pain. Her family was her life and she dearly loved every one of them. Her home swells with photos and memorabilia from their lives and accomplishments. Her passing will be a void that will never be filled. Although we will miss her, we have countless memories of her and her antics - "perunia".
Me-Me, Mama Luke, or Granny Grump as she was lovingly called, had countless friends and extended family in addition to her immediate family of 6 loving children, 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grand children, 1 great-great grand child; daughter, Mary Louise Jones of Peachtree Corners, married to Kenneth Jones and their children, Denise (Pumpkin) McCrary of North Carolina, married to Jay McCrary (great-grand children - Preston, Ashley, and Logan), Dianna (Wormy) Denson of Norcross, married to Chip Denson (great-grand child - Diane and her daughter (great-great grand child, Marissa Goodrich), Nikki, and Casey, and Marcella (Molly Luke) Jimenez of Augusta, Georgia, married to Sam Jimenez (great- grand children - Amber, Emily, Samantha, and Jamie); son, Thomas Hugo Rhiner Jaszynski of Canton, Georgia (who preceded her in death in 1992), married to Maryann Jaszynski and their children, Paul Prichard, Connie Erb, and Amy King; son, Lee Cecil Luke of Carrollton, Georgia, is married to Darlene Luke and their children are Hannah Lumpkin, Hilary Lumpkin, and Audrey Luke; daughter, Teresa Ava Maria Hughes of Braselton, Georgia, married to Allen Hughes and their children are Haley Hughes and Spencer Hughes; and twins - twin daughter, Gloria (Globug) Margaret Archer of Bonaire, Georgia and her son Aaron Archer; twin son, Glenn Preston Luke who preceded her in death in 1966.
A funeral service was held at 3:00 PM, Monday, May 24, 2004 at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel, Buford, Georgia. Officiating the service was Rev. Dr. Douglas New, senior pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Carrollton, Georgia (Clem Community). Then, in returning Mrs. Luke to her home of Albany, a grave side service was held on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 1:00 PM at Floral Memory Gardens in Albany, Georgia. All family and friends were invited and encouraged to attend.
