Obituary of Thelma Sleeth McCoy

Thelma Sleeth McCoy died Thursday, October 30th, 2003. A native of West Virginia, she was a forty year resident of Florida prior to moving to Georgia to live with her son, Ernest Kent and daughter-in-law, Lynn Parker McCoy. She was a retired school administrator from the Dade County (FL) Public School System who held degrees from Marshall University, Huntington, WV and from the University of Miami, Florida. She was a member of New Prospect United Methodist Church, Buford, GA; United Methodist Women's Group; and Delta Kappa Gamma, and honorary Society for women educators. In Florida, she was a member of the Poetry Seminar and was an amateur Poet having had one poem, "Did You Go to Bethlehem?" set to music and copyrighted. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest McCoy in 1989 and her son, Ernest Kent McCoy earlier this year. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lynn Parker McCoy; three grandchildren: Michele McCoy of Beaufort, SC; Deborah McCoy of Jacksonville, FL; and Brian McCoy in Colorado. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL on Tuesday, November 4, at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Heiden officiated. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at New Prospect United Methodist Church in Buford, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations to United Hospice or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
