Obituary of Oscar F. Hufnagel

Oscar Frederich Hufnagel, age 81 of Suwanee, died Friday, October 17, 2003 after an extended illness. Funeral service was held Monday, October 20, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel, Buford, Georgia. Rev. George Murdaugh officiated. Interment followed in Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The Family received friends on Sunday, October 19, 2003, from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M.
Mr. Hufnagel was a native of Bay City and Traverse City, Michigan. He graduated from Bay City Central in 1941. He was active in all sports and an honor roll student. He received a scholarship from Valparaiso University. He served in the US Air Force from 1942 - 1946 during W.W.II. He married Doris E. Bonnell on October 25, 1947. He was a past president of Southwest Little League in Bay City, a past president of Handy High Booster Club and an Elder, Usher and Sunday School teacher at Zion Lutheran Church.
He moved with his family to Traverse City, Michigan in 1968. There he presided as president of the Exchange Club and retired from Michigan Bell Telephone Co. in 1981 with 40 years of service. He was a devoted family man who was kind and generous with a unique sense of humor to all he met. He leaves his family and friends with cherished memories of long boat rides, big fishing tales and fried egg sandwiches.
Survivors include his loving wife Doris of 56 years; two sons, Jay Hufnagel of Suwanee, Georgia, Andy Hufnagel of Deerfield, Massachusetts; one daughter, Beth Davis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one sister, Anita Kaye of El Paso, Texas; one sister in-law, Gloria Zabel of Bay City, Michigan; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
