Obituary of Troy Vernon Adams

Mr. Troy Vernon Adams, age 87, of Buford, GA, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Funeral service will be held Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Rev. G. Stephen Wood and Mr. Dale Jones will officiate. Interment will follow at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday April 2, 2017 from 2-3 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. at www.woundedwarriorproject.org Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Troy Adams and Altalene Kytle Adams, his sister Virginia Adams Bragg, and brother Alfred Van Adams. Survivors include: His wife of 69 years, Betty Jo Cheek Adams; Son and Daughter-in-law, David C. Adams and Sally Green Adams, Atlanta, GA; Daughter, Donna Adams Pittman, Buford, GA; Son, Bruce L. Adams, Lakeland, FL; Seven Grandchildren: Andrea Adams, Erica Adams, Stephanie McBroom, Dallas Pittman, Kedrick Adams, Koen Adams, Katherine Adams; Three Great-Grandchildren: Camden Young, Abram Emberson, Audrey Applebee; Many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Mr. Adams was born in Buford, GA, and graduated from Flowery Branch High School at the age of 16. After first working in the family business, Adams Dairy, he retired from Sears at the age of 61 after many years as one of the top salesmen in the southeast. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Buford, GA, nearly his entire life, he served as a deacon there for over 40 years. Last year, he was named Deacon Emeritus. After retiring, Mr. Adams began cooking, and frequently delivered banana puddings, peanut brittle, and other delights to the bereaved and others in need.
