Obituary of Olin Foster Wellborn, Jr.

Olin Foster Wellborn, Jr., resident of Lawrenceville, GA passed away June 3, 2017 after a brief illness. Mr. Wellborn, age 88, was born October 16, 1928 in Blairsville, GA, at the home of his parents Frankie Rogers Wellborn and Olin F. Wellborn, Sr. He attended Union County High School before joining the Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany. He was employed by Arbor Acres in Blairsville prior to relocating to Chamblee, GA where he was employed by General Motors until his retirement. Mr. Wellborn loved fishing, baseball, blue grass music and loved Blairsville and the mountains. He leaves behind his three children, Karen Wellborn Favor of Lilburn, GA, Christopher Olin Wellborn and wife Kim of Flowery Branch, GA, Kevin Thomas Wellborn and wife Missy of Covington, GA, seven grandchildren; Beth Barrett and husband Michael of Buford, GA, Drew Favor and wife Kate of Flowery Branch, GA, Bryn Smith and husband Noah of Hoschton, GA, Erika Dalton and husband Jesse of Flowery Branch, GA, Ali Wellborn of Flowery Branch, GA, Adam Wellborn and wife Morgan of Gainesville, GA, and Nichole Wellborn of Flowery Branch, GA. Mr. Wellborn also leaves behind eleven great grandchildren, Brody Barrett, Jackson, Max, and Emma Kate Favor, Gavin and Garrett Smith, Troy and Gage Dalton, Gia and Sofia Marmolejo, Parker Wellborn, and has one great granddaughter Rylee Jane still due in July. Mr. Wellborn frequently remarked that he was afraid to be asked, "what's new?" after having twelve great grandchildren in a six year period. His sisters Helen Owenby and Eleanor Lee and brother in law Hugh Lee are current residents of Blairsville. He was preceded in death by parents Olin F. Wellborn Sr. and Frankie Rogers Wellborn, brother James Rogers and sister Sarah Carmon. There will be a celebration of life held at First Methodist Church of Union County, the address is 938 Hwy. 515 Blairsville, GA 30512 on June 17, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Mark Burgess and other family members honoring Mr. Wellborn. Tributes may be made to the church in his honor. Family members and friends are welcome to share their thoughts and stories.
