Obituary of Mary Jane Gard

Mary Jane Gard (Morgan), age 78, died peacefully in the care of Hospice at her residence in Buford, Georgia on April 12, 2018. Her loving spirit prevailed as she endured a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Mary Jane is survived by her adult children, Greg Gard (wife Anne Gard) of Colorado and Pam Landreth of Georgia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Willis Gard (2005). She has multiple grandchildren in Colorado and Georgia. Earlier this year Mary Jane was blessed with the addition of great-grandbabies that are identical twin girls. Mary Jane was born on May 19, 1939 to Mary (Modesitt) and Paul Morgan. She graduated from Cory High School in 1957. High School sweethearts, Mary Jane and Willis Gard married in 1959. Mary Jane and Willis lived in Cory until 2004 when they relocated to Georgia. In the late 60’s Mary Jane began work as a substitute mail clerk with the US Postal Service in Cory, Indiana. She was later awarded the position of Postmaster of the Staunton, Indiana Post Office where she worked until retiring in 1992. Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service at the Cory Zion Church on May 19, 2018 at 2pm (3476 W County Road 300 S, Cory, IN 47846). There will be a reception to follow. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
