Obituary of John Arthur Mackenzie, Sr.

John Arthur “Art” Mackenzie, Sr., age 86 of Dacula, GA, died Monday, March 11, 2019 after an extended illness. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 2 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Danny Newbern will officiate. Interment will follow at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Buford. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Art was preceded in death by his grandson, Jason Casper; brother, Boardman Mackenzie; sister, Nell Young. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Mackenzie, Dacula; children, Art Mackenzie, Jr., Jefferson, Theresa Casper and husband Terry, Jefferson; granddaughter, Jennifer Lockman and husband Timothy, Jefferson; great grandchildren, Brook Lockman, Scarlytt Lockman; several nieces and nephews. Art was born in Charleston, SC and had lived in the metro Atlanta area since 1955. He owned a sporting goods store, specializing in fishing and tackle. Art enjoyed Mini Coopers and was past president of the Mini Cooper Club. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Episcopal Church.
