Obituary of Clara Smith

On September 29, 2019, Clara Bell Smith, passed away peacefully at 84 years old. This loving wife, mother, and grandmother was born in Hartwell, Georgia on November 3, 1934 to Annie Bell Burch and Alonzo Turner.

Clara spent her early childhood in Georgia before moving to New York. While living in New York, Clara met her husband, James C. Smith and from this marriage there were three children, Kevin, Kerri, and Kimberly.

Clara was a great supporter of education and spent years as a volunteer and Para Pro at P.S. 40 in New York, where she was a “mom” to all the kids.

Clara was an active member of the Greater Central Baptist Church until her mother became ill and she cared for her until her passing. Clara loved to spend time outside enjoying the sun & nature. She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Clara, more commonly known as “Nana” loved sharing stories with all she met. She had a kind and caring spirit, her smile and laughter was contagious.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents and husband. In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Taylor and Jason. 

Funeral service for Clara will be held Friday, October 4, 2019 at 12 Noon at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Danny Newbern will officiate. Interment will follow on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. The family will receive friends Friday, October 4, 2019 from 10 AM – 12 Noon at the funeral home.
