Obituary of Doris Marie Childress

Doris Marie Childress passed away on March 17 at 9:30pm at the Pruitt Unihealth Nursing Home in Buford, Ga, She was born 1924 In Mayodan, NC and lived In Hampton In the Fox Hill Area. Doris was the mother of 4 children, Lonnie W. Childress, David L. Childress, Doraine Childress, and Tommy Childress; grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Doris is preceded in death by many loved ones including her son, Tommy Childress on 12/25/2006 and her beloved husband of 62 years, Lou Childress, who died 8/31/2004. Doris touched numerous lives with her generosity and caring nature and will be missed by many. Mom spent the better part of her marriage along with Lou Childress, managing Childress Service Center in Hampton, Va. She served Calvary Assembly of God Church for many years as Women's leader, Missionette Leader, Sunday School Teacher and on various committees including the 'Shut In' committee. She served as Chaplain for the Credit Women's Club for the State of Va. Her greatest joy was serving God and her family. Doris loved to cook and published a cookbook, "Frolicking Framie'. She would prepare huge spreads of food for her family, friends, neighbors and sometimes strangers in the 'C' Galley. A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Saturday March 27th at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel and Gardens, 3481 Hamilton Mill Road, Buford, Ga 30519.
