Obituary of Melinda Anne Freeman Stancel

Melinda Anne Freeman Stancel, age 56 of Grayson, GA died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 after an extended illness. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 2, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Rev. Dee Dillin will officiate. Interment will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Buford. The Family will receive Friends Thursday, January 1, 2015 from 1-4 and 6-9 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the Family request contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Stancel is preceded in death by her father Hendley Freeman, grandparents Louise and Willie Gooch, Jessie and G.T. Freeman, Aunt Barbara Gooch and Father In-law James Cline Stancel. Melinda is survived by her husband Dennis Stancel, Grayson; Children, Nicole Stancel Drake and husband Philip, Dacula, Natalie Stancel, Grayson; Mother, Jeannette Cruse and special Step-father, Vernon Cruse, Buford; Sister, Sharon Freeman Tice, Buford; Brothers and Sisters In-law, Steve and Denise Freeman, Marietta, Chris and Angie Freeman, Buford; Mother In-law, Lucy Stancel, Dacula; Brothers In-law and Sisters In-law, Philip and Barbara Stancel, Watkinsville, Jerry and Laura Stancel, Dacula; Sisters and Brothers In-law, Judy and Mark Gordon, Dacula, Joy and Davey Solomon, Hamilton; Great Aunts and Uncles, Edwin and Jannean Jones, Buford, Lucy and John Hutchins, Buford; 3 Step-Sisters; Best Friend, Ann West Burge, Buford; Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Melinda was born in Buford and was a lifelong resident of the Atlanta area. She was self-employed as a caterer and also served as an attendant at The Gwinnett County Historic Courthouse and a dietician with the Gwinnett County School System.
