Obituary of George Porter

George Porter passed away November 2nd, 2021, at 77 years of age in Gainesville, GA.

Dad was born and raised in Harlem, NY, the only son of Wheelock and Gladys Porter (Deceased).

He retired from the US Postal Office after 33 years of service and moved to Buford, GA to live with his son and grandchildren for his retirement.

Dad was a Navy Veteran who served on the USS Intrepid of the 34th Squadron where he held numerous medals, one of which was the National Defense Service Medal.

He loved to play handball and basketball. He often swam at the local YMCA in Harlem where he would swim 75 laps daily for over 30 years. Dad was full of insight and wisdom and had a palatable sense of humor.

He is survived by his son Eric and wife Zaire of Buford, GA; daughter, Kristie Fletcher who resides in Phoenix, AZ; His grandchildren include Xavier, Amari, Brandon, Alexis and Miles and three great grandchildren.
