Obituary of Karon Mumford

Karon Mumford, 65, of Lawrenceville, GA, died Monday, June 6, 2022. Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 11 AM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens.

Karon Yvonne Mumford was born at King’s County Hospital on June 28, 1956. She was married to the love of her life, James Mumford, for 53 years. She graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School, Class of 1974. In 1999 she obtained her Associates in Arts degree from the Borough of Manhattan Community College. In 2007 Karon further graduated from Devry Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Technical Management degree. Later she obtained her Cosmetology Certificate from Dozier Beauty School in 2020. Karon worked for J.P. Morgan (Chase) for 20 plus years and then Gwinnett County Public Schools Administration for 6 years until retirement.

During her residence in Brooklyn, NY, she was a faithful member at the Redemption Church of Christ, Inc. Under the auspices of the Late Bishop and founder, Arthur Lee Pearson, Sr. for over 45 years and held a number of church positions as a faithful member. She was a great church musician, choir director, and Sunday school teacher.

Karon was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Elizabeth Kenniebrew; her sister, Joyce Elizabeth Johnson. She is survived by her loving husband, James Walter Mumford; God-daughters, DaShawne (Anthony) Frazier, Buffy (Ronald) Fergerson; sister, Gail (Terry) Adams; brother, Lawrence (Melodie) Kenniebrew; brother-in-law, Michael (Norene) Reid, Joe Louis, Leon (Berlyn) McPhail, Robert Lee MchPhail, Monroe Jackson; sister-in-law, Ruth Zimmerman, Alma McPhail, Azalee Martin, Minnie Laura Jones, Mary Burrough, Yvette Burrough, Rhonda Reid, Donna Reid, Davila Reid; special uncle, Arthur Reid and a host of nieces and nephews who she loved and cherished her dearly.
