Obituary of Dorris Franklin Norman

Reverend Dorris Franklin Norman, 67, of Dacula, passed away December 1, 2002 following an extended illness. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, a devoted father, and an extraordinary human being by many people whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; three daughters, Rhonda Taylor of Birmingham, Alabama, Joy Norman and Leslie Norman of Lawrenceville; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Meredith Taylor of Birmingham, Alabama; a brother and sister in-law, Howard and Annette Norman of Stone Mountain; and nephews and nieces. Reverend Norman was raised and educated in Evansville, Indiana prior to graduating from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina where he received a Bachelor of Divinity degree. His pastoral experience spans over 28 years in the states of Kentucky, North Carolina, and Georgia. Before accepting a position with the Georgia Baptist Convention in 1984, he served as pastor of White Oak Hills Baptist Church in Stone Mountain for more than 14 years. Reverend Norman served Georgia Baptists in many capacities ranging from Trustee of Tift College to Director and Vice Chairman of the Home Mission Board. He retired in 1995 from the Georgia Baptist Convention where he served as the Director of the Pastoral Ministries Department, with responsibilities in Deacon, Family, and Senior Adult Ministries. He held various positions with associations and was interim pastor for many churches throughout the State. Reverend Norman's life depicted many successes and achievements and made an impact on many lives throughout the State of Georgia. Funeral services were held at 11A.M. at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, December 3, 2002. Reverend Delamar Parkerson officiated. Burial followed in Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family received friends on Monday, December 2, 2002 from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please remember D.F. By helping to fight the disease which took his own life, as well as so many others.
