OBITUARY SUGAR HILL DAVIS, JIMMY L. SR. Mr. Jimmy L. Davis, Sr., age 85 of Sugar Hill, GA entered into eternal rest with his heavenly father on January 6, 2014. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Davis, Sugar Hill, GA; grandson, Jeremy Davis, Chicago, IL; great grandson Matthew Davis, Buford, GA; parents, Rev. Roy and Millie Davis, Anderson, SC; and sister, Jackie Davis Fellers of Anderson, SC. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Edna (Jackie) Davis, Sugar Hill, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy Davis, Jr. and Sue, Buford, GA; Tommy Davis and Lynne, Dacula, GA; Marty Davis and Joy, Buford, GA; Larry Davis and Annette, Buford, GA; Terry Davis, Sugar Hill, GA; and daughter and son-in-law, Susan Davis Marshall and Ricky, Buford, GA. Sisters Mary Jo Swinford and husband Arvin and Lois Thomas of Anderson, SC. Grandchildren include Bobby Davis, Jefferson, GA; Paula Bennett, Buford, GA; Stephanie Davis, Sugar Hill, GA; Emily Davis, Flowery Branch, GA; Julie Davis, Atlanta, GA; Molly Davis, Charlotte NC; and Hunter Marshall, Buford, GA. Great grandchildren include Cassidy and Taylor Davis, Jefferson, GA; Audrey, Ruth, and Tripp Bennett, Buford, GA; Erica, Nicholas, EJ, Paul, Destiny, Audrey, Anna, and Daninela Davis, Buford, GA, and several nephews and cousins. Mr. Davis was born April 6, 1928, in Anderson, SC where he worked in textile manufacturing. He served as a deacon at Central Baptist Church of Anderson, SC. He served honorably as a war veteran in the United States Army as an Infantryman during World War II in the Japanese Islands. He was awarded the Japanese Victory Medal and the Japanese Occupation Medal for his military service. After military service, Mr. Davis relocated to Duluth, GA where he worked in the poultry business and life insurance agent. He then moved to Buford, GA where he served as a salesman for fire alarms, furniture, and new and used cars. He is a member of First Baptist Church Buford, GA. Mr. Davis was a self-taught, gifted, first tenor professional gospel singer. He produced many gospel recordings with notable groups plus a solo recording of favorite hymns. He sang with such popular groups as the Hi-Neighbor Quartet; Blue Ridge Quartet; James Padgett Singers; Homeland Harmony Quartet; Sunny South Boys; and Senators Quartet. As a result of his lengthy ministry in gospel music, Mr. Davis represented the very best in Southern Gospel Music. The Homecoming Service celebrating the life of Jimmy L. Davis, Sr. will be held Friday, January 10, 2014, 1:00 pm, at the Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel with Rev. Wayne Johnson of Buford First Baptist Church and Rev. Scott Crook of Blackshear Place Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2014, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Embracing Hospice, 8013 Majors Road, Cumming, GA 30041, in memory of Jimmy L.
