Doris Eloise (Bonnell) Hufnagel, age 85 of Suwanee, died, Saturday, June 08, 2013. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 2:00PM Monday, June 10, 2013 with the funeral immediately following at 2:00PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel, Buford, Georgia. Interment will follow. She will be buried next to her predeceased husband, Oscar F. Hufnagel in Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hufnagel was a native of Bay City and Traverse City, Michigan. She moved to Suwannee in 2000. She graduated Central High in 1946. She was active as a Majorette, looking spectacular twirling her baton in her high hat and high-stepping white boots. She married Oscar on October 25, 1947. She was very active in the Bay City Southwest Little League and ran the concession stand for years while Oscar resided as the president of the league. Doris worked as a Buyer of the Gift Dept. at Milliken's Department Store and later at the Dept. of Employment in Traverse City where she managed to get summers off. Her main focus was family. She loved camping at St. Helen Lake with Oscar and the kids when they were young and cooking blueberry pancakes in a cast iron skillet over an open fire. In 1968, Doris and Oscar moved the family to Traverse City, Michigan to a lake home on Grand Traverse Bay. Her grandkids called her either Nana or Mimi, but no matter what the name, they all agree that she was the best grandmother in the world. Loving memories include long days on the beach, family dinners and watching the sun set with a glass of wine. Her beauty, loving nature and generosity impacted everyone that met her. Survivors include two sons, Jay Hufnagel of Suwanee, Georgia, Andy Hufnagel of Deerfield, Massachusetts, one daughter, Beth Davis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one sister Gloria Zabel of Bay City, Michigan; six grandchildren and eighteen great children.
