Obituary of Charles Covil Kerlin
Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles "Curly" Kerlin passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on August 27t, 2016. He was preceded in death by his Father, Wilbur Kerlin, his Mother, Maxine Kerlin; sisters, Charlene Vallartta and Caroljean Kerlin; and son, Todd Kerlin. He is survived by his wife, Marsha, daughter, Jamie Kerlin, daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Kevin Kane, daughter and son-in-law Angela and Dennis Brabender, son and daughter-in-law Rickey and Deena Shelton and daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Matt Fox. He was also the proud "Papa" of Amber Capes and Tyler Brabender, Joshua Kerlin, Claire Tompkins, Cassandra and Jessica Fox, and his great granddaughter Adalynn Capes.
Curly was born in Freeport, Illinois on August 19, 1938. He attended Freeport High School where he was a gifted athlete. He participated in track, baseball and basketball, but particularly enjoyed football where he was their star quarterback.
He raised his family in Wisconsin where he and his wife, Marsha, were well known for their homemade pizza at their restaurant "Curly's Pizza."
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed sharing this pastime with his children and grandchildren. Although he repeatedly tried to demonstrate how patience and silence can payoff while hunting or fishing, most of our outings were completely unsuccessful. However, even with our lack of success, those outings became some of our all-time favorite memories with him.
He was a man who cared deeply for his family and worked incredibly hard his entire life to ensure their well-being. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him and, even though our annual Christmas Cookie Decorating Contest will continue, it will never be the same without our reigning champion.
In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you, instead, take a moment to hug your child, grandchild, parent or friend. Slow down for a moment to appreciate the loved ones in your life as time waits for no one. Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel 770-945-6924 Share memories of Curly at hamiltonmillchapel.com
