Dear Mike, Janice, and Family,
It has been years since you lived in your home on Wilbur Dr. but it will always be the Johnson house to me. I am so sorry to learn of Mike's passing. The last time I saw him he was a young man in Cumberland. Reading the tributes I can tell he grew up to be an outstanding, compassionate, loving person. You all are in my thoughts and prayers as you try to cope with this tragic loss.
Love and Prayers,

Dr. Mike's family,
It has been a week now, and we are still not over the sudden loss of your amazing son, brother, uncle, friend, etc. Mike had such a huge impact on the lives of so many kids and their families. He was so well respected in his field and fought so hard for "his kids." We know he saved our son's life and in turn saved ours.
Both of my boys saw Mike and the 2nd requested to see him after he saw what a difference Mike had made in his brother's life. With the oldest, they talked sports (which they both loved) and to use a sports analogy Mike was a "game changer" for us. With the youngest, they talked movies and video games. He knew about things that were important to the age he was treating. In his way too short life, he accomplished more than most will in twice that many years.
He will be missed by so many. Our family has been sharing tons of "Mike" stories with each other this week. Thank you for being a great family. He loved and spoke often about you all.

What a tragic loss of a young angel. In such a short time Mike touched literally hundreds of people in ways that will indeed change the course of their lives. Yet, he remained one of the most humble an unassuming men I know. Over the past few days I have been fielding phone calls from Mike's clients, relaying the news of his death over and over. The responses are all the same; shock, tears, and comment after comment of how "Mike has changed my son's life", "we searched for years to find a therapist like Mike", "we drive an hour each way to see Mike", "we have only seen Mike a handful of times, but, the difference it has made is astounding." I, like many, struggle to understand why bad things happen to good people. And while I have no answer, I revel in the happiness that I was one of those that had the good fortune to have been touched by Mike and his goodness. You are one of the good guys and you will be missed and remembered by many for generations to come.
Love,
Lisa Terry

It was an honor and a privilege to have had Mike as a colleague. His genuine concern for the children and families he served was matched only by the resourcefulness with which he approached each and every client to help them overcome their challenges. I so enjoyed his intelligence and quiet, dry humor. What a caring, gentle soul. We already miss him every day in our office. Prayers to all his family and friends.

I am so sad to hear of Dr. Mike's passing. He was so dedicated and had a special gift of relating to the kids and families he served. He understood the kids and was able to reach those that others couldn't. He held office hours on the weekend, so he could be available when it was most convenient for the families. This is just one indication of the type of person he was. I often said he wasn't just my son's counselor, but he offered me much support and great advice as well. He was always creative and innovative in meeting my son's specific needs. He not only was available for office hours, but was also there to offer advice and support for the IEP's at school. Please know how much he cared for his family. He was always talking about growing up with his brothers and sisters , how great his mom was at handling you when you were kids and his plans of spending time with nieces and nephews. I was so proud for him when he received his Doctorate; he told us we could just continue calling him Mike, but from that day forward, he was Dr. Mike to us.
Dr. Mike, you were not only a great therapist, you were a great person! The many kids and families you served have lost a champion! RIP Dr. Mike.

My nephew Mikey was a package of sweetness and love throughout his too brief time with us. He carried those characteristics into all aspects of his life. He was a great brother, a fun uncle and godfather, a nephew who was always there, and a truly devoted son. His professional accomplishments were stellar not only because he was smart (and he was very smart) and creative and resourceful, but also because he cared about his clients with his entire being.
Mikey loved Bob Dylan. I'd like to share some lyrics from one of my favorite Dylan songs, "Forever Young":
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young.
Mikey grew up to be all of the above. Our family is so broken hearted to have lost him too soon. He will be forever young.

I worked with Mike for several years in Gainesville. He brought so much joy to our office. He made every day better, just by being there. I had a great deal of respect for his talent and appreciation for the compassion he felt for the children he worked with. At our counseling center, he worked with many challenging children and teens and their families. Yet, he was always able to find the good in those he worked with and help the kids he worked with to see that in themselves, improving their self-confidence, and to help them build their--often broken--lives on their strengths.
I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing and would just like to convey to his family that you will remain in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Davis

I was close friends with Mike when we attended Georgia College. I met Mike on the first day of orientation. We were both psychology majors and shared many of the same interests. Mike was kind, creative, and so fun. Memories of college are filled with images of Mike. I was heartbroken this morning when I saw that he had passed. Though he and I lost touch, I still think of him often. I send my deepest condolences to your family, and will be praying for you.

Dr. Mike was one of the kindest, most gentle, and generous spirited people I've ever known. He helped my son tremendously for several years, and his ability to connect with children and make them feel comfortable was unparalleled. What a gift he had....what a gift he was to so many people! Not just the kids, but us parents, too. He bridged the gap and brought us closer to our children. I will always remember how my son and I would talk with him for a few minutes at the end of the sessions, and how he would spend a few minutes catching up with me at the start of each session, asking how things have been going, etc. I wish I'd have known Mike for decades, but I had the great privilege of knowing him for a few years, and he will always live on in my heart and in the hearts of so many. Such a warm, gentle, soft-spoken fellow with an easy laugh who could make anyone feel comfortable. He'll still be doing God's work of helping people, just in another dimension. Here's a thought that I hope will help us all: If we continue to love the ones we lose, we never lose the ones we love.
Mike, we all loved you and will continue to love you! You gave soooo much more than you ever asked for, and so many children and young adults and their parents are truly changed because of how you gave of yourself.
To those who knew and loved Mike....we were all so lucky!
To those who read this and never met Mike....so sorry you missed out!
To Mike's family....thank you for all you did to make him the gift that he was to so many!
To Mike.....time to hook up the bio feedback to someone up in the heavens....don't let your wings get in the way, I know you've already gotten them for all you did for us down here!
Forever grateful to you, you're forever in our hearts, you're forever smiling....and we're all sending so much love your way!

I am still in shock I just found out yesterday from my son Clint Mack of Mike's passing, My son is in the Army and a long time friend of Mike's, they went to High School together. Mike used to come to my house with Clint. What a loving soul your son was. He had a giving heart. When my son was at war Mike sent him a care package it meant so much to my son. Mike kept in touch with me to make sure I was doing alright as i was a single mother. I hope and Pray that God is giving you the strength to try and understand why this has happened. As a parent that has lost a son it does get easier in time but everyday is a struggle. I am so very sorry for your loss, I am still trying to comprehend that Mile is gone. I wish I would have known I would have been at his funeral. Mike meant a lot to my so Clint and his brothers Chris and Cole also knew him. I am Praying for your family
