I first met Mike in 1985 when I was introduced to him by Jack McClarran (another friend we lost much too early) for the purpose of taking piping lessons. Mike freely shared his love of piping with me and with many other students and as the years progressed, it was clear that he enjoyed my successes every bit as much as his own. He was always encouraging, always positive always upbeat and always willing to spend extra time. Through the years I know I underpaid him, but he steadfastly he refused to take more and in hindsight I could see that was how he wanted it … how he was most comfortable.
He was an immediate friend, selfless and giving to those who crossed his path. Over time I learned that this was typical of Mike's accepting and giving nature both in his personal life and in his work with troubled young people in the juvenile court system.
I've struggled with the fact of Mike's passing and it has taken me longer than it should to write even this short acknowledgment that we have lost a true friend but I hope this brief remembrance affords Mike at least something of the honor with which he deserves to be remembered. Mike lived a life that honored God in the way he treated others and in the process he set a wonderful example of kindness and decency that's worthy to be followed.
Farewell and Godspeed my friend … I look forward to meeting you again.

I remember Michael for his simple spirit. Whenever we spoke he was alway humble & ready to help.I would laugh watching him walk down the block from the court to deliver documents. He always looked in a hurry coming and going. I tell him to slow down with a chuckle. I was shocked when he retired but thaought it was much deserved. He was a quiet, steady worker who you never had to wait on. Procrarination never seemed evident with me, when i needed his assistance.
Mike, the good always seem to go early. You were one of the best. Rest in Peace.

Michael was always such a friendly guy and I loved to talk to him about what he was reading at the time. He had a great interest in history and so do I. I'll miss the way his face would turn red when ever I gave him a hug or surprised him in the hallways of the juvenile court. His passing is truely shocking and I want his family to know that I am keeping them in my prayers. Good bye Mike, you are sorely missed.

I remember Mike when he came work at Juvenile Court. I was one of the several deputies at the court and Mike always had a knack for tell funny stories on various subjects. I worked the pre-lim courtrooms for a while, then moved upstairs to the trial courts. I after several years, became a "street" deputy and Mike on occasion would ride "shotgun" looking for one of proabtioneers whom he had a warrant on.
I retired in March 95 because of a job related injury, and on occasion, go back to Juvie Court to see former fellow deputies and friends. I would seek Mike out as he was one those friends . I went back to the Court to see Judge Jones unveiling of his portrait and saw Mike again. I didn't know that Mike was thinking about retirement, but I would have encouraged it because it was a worthwhile part of life.
To the family of Mike, please accept my deepest condolences of the passing of your relative, immediate family member, and one of buddies whom he worked with at The Fulton County Juvenile Court in downtown Atlanta, GA. He will be missed dearly.

I am lighting a candle today in memory of my cousin Michael. Growing up we were like brothers and spent almost every summer together in Atlanta. We loved to go to the Cyclorama or anywhere else related to the Civil War; swimming, running around the woods, and playing chess. I will always remember and cherish those carefree summer days. I will miss him greatly. Hope and Nancy you are in my thoughts and prayers.

The first time I heard Mike play the bagpipes at St Mary and Martha I cried, It was so Beautiful. And everytime after that his playing had the same effect on me. A truly, kinder more gentle person I have never met. Mike, I will miss you greatly, your smile and your love and caring for our furry friends. I will get my puppy and I know you will be smiling when I do. We have truly been blessed to know and love you. You will always be in our hearts!

when Michael was preparing to retire from the juvenile court, he shared with some of us that we wouldn't remember him after six months passed. I begged to differ. First of all, he played a bagpipe, I'd NEVER known anyone who played a bagpipe. Second, I have a son and grandson- both are named Michael. So, I remember well the nice guy named 'Michael', who played a mean bagpipe.

I met Mike when he joined the Atlanta Pipe Band more that thirty years ago. I will always remember him for his dry sense of humor and quiet demeanor. Mike was a hard person not to like. Mike was a true gentleman, his grace and disarming nature was a tribute to his upbringing. Although I have not seen Mike for several years, he will be remembered with great fondness.

I first met Mike over 35 years ago. He was a beginning bagpiper and I had recently moved to Atlanta to play in the Atlanta Pipe Band. Additionally, he "followed" me to the Fulton County Juvenile Court. I have many very good memories of this truly gentle person. I don't recall him ever saying an unkind word about anyone and he always seemed to quick with a positive comment or smile when it was most needed. If there is one overriding thought about Mike at this sad time, it is "he did no harm to anyone."
My deepest condolences to Mike's family. He will be remembered and missed.

Mike brought me to tears with his amazing talent with bagpipes. I told him that once and he said, "Oh, I'm sorry!" We laughed and I explained what I meant. I think it's amazing how God puts unassuming people in our lives who bring us closer to Him. That's what Mike did for me on those occasions.

Mike was one of the first people I met at St. Mary and Martha of Bethany. He greeted myself and my family with a firm handshake and a warm welcome. I especially remember Mike always making sure everything with me and my family was going well with church. Always greeting me with a, "How are you?" that he genuinely meant. We love Mike and will dearly dearly miss him.
