Obituary of Gene Drummond

Othel E. "Gene" Drummond, age 87 of Buford, Georgia, died Friday, July 3, 2009 after an extended illness. Funeral service will be held Monday, July 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Buford. Rev. Wayne Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens, Buford. The Family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5, 2009 from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church Buford Sanctuary Fund, 4550 Hamilton Mill Road, Buford, GA, 30518. Mr. Drummond is survived by his wife Frances R. Drummond, Buford, GA; Sons and Daughters In-law, Russ and Sandie Drummond, Powder Springs, GA, Randy and Brenna Drummond, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Granddaughter and Husband, Amy and Larry Akiyama, Arlington, VA; Several nieces, nephew and cousins. Mr. Drummond was born in El Dara, IL and lived in the metro Atlanta area the past 18 years. He was a retired senior manager in commercial lending with Bank of America in Texas, a member of First Baptist Church, Buford, and a WWII U.S. Army Veteran where he participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach. He earned the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
