Obituary of Marie Elizabeth Crow Houmes

Marie Elizabeth Crow Houmes, age 89 of Buford, GA went to be with her Heavenly Father Friday, January 4, 2008. Funeral service were held Thursday, January 10, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Sugar Hill United Methodist Church. Rev. Mari Lane Brooks officiated. The family received friends on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 from 1-3 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to: Eagle Ranch, PO Box 7200 Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502. Mrs. Homes was preceded in death by her parents, A.F. and Nancy Crow, her Husband of over 50 years, William Nolin Houmes and Daughter, Judith Houmes. Surviving are: Daughter, Eleanor Turpin, Buford, GA Son and Daughter In-law, Norman and Kathy Houmes, Newton, IL, Daughter and Son In-law, Janice and John Sampley, Chickamauga, GA. Grandchildren, Dannette and Louie Gomez, Aaron and Darcie Turpin, Sean and Stephanie Houmes, Damien and Heather Turpin, Natasha Sampley and Amanda and John Newberry. 10 Great Grandchildren. Mrs. Houmes was born June 17, 1918 in Marion County, IN. She was very active in Methodist Churches all of her life including Sugar Hill United Methodist and St. Timothy United Methodist in Georgia. She was a 4-H leader for over 25 years in Illinois and Florida. Along with her husband, Marie was a life member of Good Sam Club. Marie was raised on a farm and farmed with her husband for many years. When her children were in their teens Marie and Bill moved to Miami Florida and moved to Georgia in 1979.
