James A. Carrier, age 79 of Dacula, GA, died Saturday, December 22, 2007 after an extended illness. A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Buford Presbyterian Church. Dr. John Roark officiated. The Family received friends following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or at www.alz.org. Mr. Carrier is survived by his wife, Norma Carrier, Dacula, GA; Daughter and Son In-law, Joyce Carrier and Steven Akey, Alexandria, VA; Son and Daughter In-law, Mark and Julie Carrier, Atlanta, GA; Grandchildren, Kendall Akey, Conner Carrier, Nicholas Carrier, Kelsey Carrier and Logan Akey. Mr. Carrier was a US Army Veteran where he served as a paratrooper in the 82 nd air borne division at the close of WWII. He then attended West Virginia University where he graduated with a degree in business administration and was president of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He moved to Schenectady, NY to work for GE. In 1955 he married Norma Dedrick of Putnam, NY. They loved to travel and spend weekends at Lake George, NY. Mr. Carrier belonged to the Edison Club and the Schenectady Curling Club. He loved traveling, camping, boating, skiing and playing bridge. He served as president of Babe Ruth Baseball, was on the board of Planned Parenthood and the animal shelter in Schenectady, NY. He retired after 37 years at GE and moved to Dacula, GA. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and was a friend to all who knew him.
