Obituary of J.C. Kilgore

Mr. John C. Kilgore, age 81, of Buford died Thursday, February 22, 2001 following a brief illness. Funeral service was held Saturday, February 24, at 11:00 A. M. at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel in Buford. Rev. Hollis Benfield and Rev. Mark Whiting Officiated. Interment followed in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Friday, February 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 P. M. at the funeral home. Flowers were accepted or contributions can be made to Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Lane, Duluth, GA 30096. Surviving Mr. Kilgore is his wife of 54 years, Mattie Cheek Kilgore, Buford; Son and Daughter In-law, Jery N. and Betsy W. Kilgore, Buford. Their children, Amy Kilgore, Duluth and Derrick Kilgore of Buford. Mr. Kilgore was preceded in death by his Daughter, Jane K. Risley. Surviving are her children, Son and Daughter In-law, John and Christina Risley, Oakwood and Daughter, Lyn Beidenger, Smyrna; Also surviving are: Sister, Ruby Carter, Trenton, GA; Sisters and Brothers In-law, Annie Ruth and Paul Saunders, Atlanta, Betty and Ralph Matthews, Tucker; Sisters In-law, Berma C. Buice, Norcross, Lillian C. Craig, Buford. Several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. Mr. Kilgore was a lifelong resident of Buford, an Army veteran of WW II, and a Mason. He was a retired rural mail carrier with 33 years of service and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where he served many years as a Deacon. Mr. Kilgore served on the Gwinnett Metro Baptist Association New Church Foundation since its beginning and was a Vice-president for 15 years. He was still active as a Realtor.
