Obituary of Rilla Shelton Samples

Rilla Shelton Samples, age 88 of Buford, GA died Monday, November 13, 2006 after an extended illness. Funeral Service was Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Rev. Wayne Johnson officiated. Interment followed in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens, Buford. The Family received friends on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Mrs. Samples was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Samples who died in 1984. Surviving are daughters Claudia Samples Phillips and Tom Phillips of Monroe, GA and Tommie Anne Samples Crissman Driggers and Bob Driggers of Buford, GA, Brother Gerald Shelton of Buford. Grandchildren - Shawn and Kimberly Phillips/great-granddaughter - Lilly Ann Phillips. Step-grandchildren - David and Sherry Crissman, Drew and Mindy Crissman, Laura and Shawn Fowler and Jennifer and John Head. Step great-grandchildren CJ and Tyler; Andrew and Brenna; Lauren and Ryan; Abby, Sarah and Emma. Rilla retired from the Georgia Dept. of Revenue and returned to Buford in 1996. She was an active member of Buford First Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School director and teacher; outreach for Cradle Roll and GA Leader. During her years in Atlanta (1970 to 1996) she was an active member of Second-Ponce De Leon Baptist Church. She was most involved in Eastern Star, Jr. Woman's Club and PTA as her girls grew up in Buford and well known for baking a cake if you dropped in for a visit.
