I so wanted to say hello to Eric, as we both were approaching our 65th. birthdays-October and November. We received our driving learner licenses together when my dad, Harold, took us in 1965. I tried to find a phone number a year ago, and now it's too late, and that makes me very sad. Eric was my very first boyfriend at 15 years old, when we both were students at Druid Hills High School. We were the best friends and he was the absolute best boyfriend a girl could ever have-polite, caring, a real gentleman-a boyfriend I could only have hoped for my own daughter. We went together, even after he was transferred to Decatur High School, Druid Hills' rival. I wore Eric's football leather jacket to school every day, and never dated another guy. We attended each other's proms and I went to every football game he played in. At the DHHS reunion, the men said they were always afraid to ask me out, as Eric was the toughest guy around. Mom broke us up in our Senior year of high school, and my best friend at the time, Paula, and I "rolled" his new girlfriend at Decatur's house. ( Not sure Eric ever knew it was us who did this or not.) I ended up at UGA, and of coarse Eric, ended up a great U of Florida football player . I have so many happy memories of my young years with Eric, and I know his wife and kids must be just as special as he was.
My sincerest condolences,
Michelle DeLong Myers

Mr. Taggart was one of my favorite teachers at Berkmar. He was one of the smartest and most interesting men I had ever known. He seemed to know EVERYTHING, and no question would stump him. He was an honest and fair teacher, and I am blessed for knowing him. My deepest condolences for Amanda and the family. My prayers are with you that you will find peace and comfort knowing he lived an incredible life and touched the lives of so many young minds.

I thought of Eric as an older brother. He always looked out for me & girls when Dewey traveled n the early years. I always knew I could call him or Carol. I remember the time we were out of town & Deweys sister stopped by. Eric didn't recognize her car & came across the street & introduced himself & asked who she was. She told us later, your neighbor really look out for you when you're gone. We will miss you Eric& we will look out for Carol.

Sorry for your loss. Eric was one of the nicest and brightest people that I have ever worked with. I still play the classical music CDs that he put together for me as a lesson plan some ten years ago. I have retired to south Florida and won't make the service but know that my heart is with his family. The world is a lesser place without Eric but a better place because he was here.

I taught with Eric at Berkmar for years. I would visit his room, and we would talk about history and teaching and he always made me laugh. Often we ate lunch together in the commons. He was such a sweet man, always willing to help students and other teachers. He will be missed.

Coach Taggart was one of the finest men to ever step foot on the Berkmar HS Campus. Most people never knew it....in a given year he probably tutored over half the Varsity Football Team, the door to his home was always open. He poured himself into all of us, never expecting anything in return. That's just the type of man he was......

Mr. Taggart was a wonderful man. I remember him as a senior at Berkmar HS coming in to be a history teacher and a cross country coach. I didn't see him again until I came into the teaching profession, he was one of the many teachers that mentored me in my first years at Berkmar HS. He told great stories and cared so much for the kids in the classroom. He never wanted to teach the advanced kids because he believed all kids were equal in the classroom. He wanted to impart his knowledge to everyone and was a stern but fair teacher in the classroom. He was a proud Florida Gator (told stories about how the first Gatorade didn't really taste that great) but an even more proud father and grandfather. He always spoke about how proud he was of his kids and he doted on his grandchildren always telling me how smart his granddaughter Rylee was and how he loved how martial arts instilling discipline for Grady. I am so sorry I can't make the viewing or funeral but we missed him when he left Berkmar for retirement and we really miss him like crazy now that he's gone. Prayers to your family because he was a great man.

Coach Taggart was a very good man. He truly cared about all of the kids he worked with. My son, Chris Bruce, played football for him at Berkmar 1983 - 1987. He was always someone the kids could go to for advice and help. He will be missed. Joy Bruce

I'm so sorry to hear of your fathers passing, may God surround you with hope, love and support during your time of grief! My fondest memories of your dad were back when we would have our chorus get together a at your house in the basement, sleep over parties!!! And of course my freshman year history teacher as well!!! He had an amazing passion for teaching, he was probably one of the first history teachers I ever had that actually got me interested in learning history!!! He was an amazing teacher, mentor, friend, dad, grandfather and many more!!! He will be deeply missed by so many and forever remembered in our fondest memories! My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. May he rest in peace.

Eric Taggart was my best friend. I suspect almost anyone who knew him felt that way. He would do anything he could for people. He was bigger than life. He and I agreed politically on almost nothing but we enjoyed discussing everything - history, literature, politics and policy, music, and sports - especially football. He had strong views which were reflected in his passion for life, family, and friendship. At family gatherings, it was the more the merrier. At his annual fireworks display he spent a lot of money to present a show any private citizen would be happy to watch- and over the years many did. Unpretentious and happy to be considered a regular guy he was so much more than that. He may have been the closest thing we really have to a superhero. My life will have an empty place in it without him and I expect that is how anyone who even casually knew him will feel.

My favorite memory of Coach Targgart, my line coach at Shamrock High School, was a trip he took us lineman on. Awesome man. The lineman were nicknamed Taggart's Hawgs!!! We had T-shirts made up with the slogan. He took a bunch of us to a Monday Night Football game when the Falcons played the LA Rams. He played football with Jack Youngblood and we got to hang out with the Rams during their pregame warmup. Freddie Dryer, Hacksaw Reynolds, Jack Youngblood, John Cappelletti, Jim Youngblood, Wendell Tyler, Jackie Slater....unbelievable night...unforgettable coach...unforgettable man and mentor...I love you Coach!

I remember when papa would call me and the kids, "ding dongs, ding bats, ding-a-lings, and Turkies." I would laugh hard. I miss him, but know that he's not suffering. I know that he loves Florida Gators, and I kind of want to root for them because papa loves that team. He loves classic rock too.
