Obituary of James Hickmon Collins

James H. "Jim" Collins, age 66 of Buford, GA died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 after an extended illness. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 3390 South Puckett Road, Buford, GA 30519. The Family will receive Friends on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the church. In Lieu of flowers the Family request contributions be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Jim Collins. Jim was preceded in death by his Father, William H. Collins, Sr. and Sister Shirley Glasgow. He is survived by his Wife, Pat Collins, Buford. Children, Alan Collins and Wife, Gina, St. Louis, MO, James Collins and Wife, Rachel, Marietta, GA. Granddaughter, Nevin Collins. Mother, Madelyn Collins, Thomaston, GA. Sister, Harriett Raines, Yatesville, GA, Brother, Colonel William H. Collins, Jr., US Army (Ret.) and Wife, Joann, Lincolnton, GA. Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Jim was born in Thomaston, GA and had lived in the Atlanta area the past 35 years. He was self employed as a Landscape Architect. He was formerly employed with DeKalb County Parks and Recreation and Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation and Facilities Manager at Gwinnett County Court House. Jim was a member of American Society of Landscape Architects, Society of American Foresters and the American Horticulture Society. He was a former board member of the Spruill Center for the Arts. He taught adult education classes for Landscape Design at Sawnee Center, Spruill Center and Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. Jim was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Buford.
