Only For a Short While

Oh, only for so short a while you
have loaned us to each other, because we take form in your act of drawing us, and we take life in your painting us, and we breathe in your singing us.

Because even a drawing cut in obsidian fades, and the green feathers, the crown feathers, of the Quetzal bird lose their color, and even the sounds of the waterfall die out in the dry season.

Sally Jean Lindquist White passed on June 26, 2022 in Buford, Georgia after battling cancer for 4 years. She was born on October 13, 1947, in Central Islip, NY to Donald Lindquist and Elizabeth Muckle. Sally is survived by her husband, Jesse, a loving family of 3 daughters, Suzanne Feldman, Wendy Gaskill, and Sara White, 5 grandchildren, Eliza Gaskill, Jordan Gaskill, Spencer Feldman, Clifford Feldman, and Katie Soucier, 2 great grandchildren Gibson Soucier and Cain Soucier, 2 brothers Michael Lindquist of Florida and Clifford Lindquist of New York, and 3 sisters Gail Kellner of New York, Nancy Ferzola of Florida, and Debbie Whatley of South Carolina.

As a child, Sally was a polio pioneer enduring the trials of testing a new vaccine. She continued her family tradition by pursuing a career in nursing. After graduating from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1976 with a degree in nursing and later attending the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Sally not only worked on the cutting edge of medicine and how best to work with people but promoted nursing as a profession. Loved by family, friends, patients, and others, she worked in orthopaedics at Ozark Orthopaedics in Fayetteville for 22 years assisting Dr. Tom Phillip Coker and later becoming clinic nurse manager. She worked as a heart and organ transplant OR nurse at Henrico Doctors and then assisted in outpatient surgery at VCU in Richmond, VA. Late in her career, she taught military medical staff and then public and private hospital and clinical staff how to use electronic medical records as these technologies emerged. She worked as a Veteran’s Administration Aide while in nursing school, as a Public Health nurse in Conway County, Arkansas, and taught medical insurance coding to new users in Fayetteville.

Sally was an active member of the national Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) serving as President of the local chapter, and the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON). Sally helped create the Orthopaedic Nurse Certification and was one of the first ONC nurses.

Sally loved music and was willing to attend a concert at a moment’s notice. She loved the sea and lived aboard her sailboat for 12 years in the Chesapeake Bay. Sally enjoyed traveling the world and seeking new adventures on her journey. After retirement, she sailed the Bahamas and the Eastern Caribbean for over 4 years visiting new places and finding new adventures. She ended her journey with the love of family and friends in attendance.
