Obituary of Capt. Luther Franklin McKelvey

Capt. Luther Franklin "Mac" McKelvey, Jr, Gwinnett County Police Dept. (Ret.), age 71, of Buford, GA, died on Friday, February 1, 2013 following an extended illness. Funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 4, at 2PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel, Buford. Rev. Danny Newbern & Maj. John Latty will officiate. Interment will follow in Shadow Lawn Cemetery in Lawrenceville. Family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 3, from 2-4pm & 6-9pm. Flowers are accepted or those that wish may make a memorial donation to the Zion Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, ww.zionhillbuford.org. Capt. McKelvey is survived by his Wife, Martha McKelvey, Buford; Daughter and Son In-Law, Torrie & Steve Roney, Dacula; Daughter, Kellie Karnes, Winder; Grandchildren, Lillie Karnes, Ellison Karnes, and Clayton Roney; Sister and Brother In-Law, Eleanor & Douglas Stewart, Sharpsburg, GA; Mother In-Law, Margaret Lumpkin, Ringgold, GA; Sister In-Law and Brother In-Law, Carolyn & Grady Williams, Ringgold, GA; Sister In-Law, Anne Millwood, Homer, GA; Several Nieces, Nephews & Cousins. Capt. McKelvey was a lifelong resident of the Metro Atlanta area and had graduated from Fulton High School with the Class of 1959. He was a Deacon at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Buford; a member of the Men's Prayer Team, and a member of the Dacula Masonic Lodge #433 F&AM. Capt. McKelvey had also served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve.
