Obituary of Captain Hugh Davis Douglas

Captain Hugh Davis Douglas, age 63, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at his home in Buford, GA after a battle with colon cancer. He graduated from Roosevelt High school in 1965 and Dekalb College and Brenau University with degrees in Communications and Fire Science. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Hugh retired from the Atlanta Fire Department in 2000 and volunteered with the Alpharetta Fire Department for 5 years and was a member of the Atlanta Metropolitan Fire Association. He grew up in the Inman Park Presbyterian Church and is presently a member of the Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church. Hugh was predeceased by his father and mother, John Hugh and Rosa Douglas of Atlanta, GA. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen O'Shields Douglas, daughter and son-in-law Kelli Jo and Jason Petway, daughter Bonnie Rose Douglas, brother and sister-in-law John E. and Betty Douglas, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rusty and Cathy O'Shields, sister-in-law Mary Shepherd, father-in-law, Jay O'Shields, nephews and nieces Shawn Douglas, Kris Douglas, Jay O'Shields, Katie Shepherd, Josh O'Shields, Adam Shepherd, Denise Cacciatore, many cousins, great nieces and a great nephew. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel, Buford. Dr. Dave Davis, Pastor Jason Mincey, and Chaplain Thomas Houston will officiate. Interment will follow in Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1-2 PM.
