My Darling Love, I miss you every minute. I will never forget the 40 wonderful years we shared on this earth, and I thank God every day for bringing us together. We all miss you, everyone who ever knew you! You made the world a brighter and a better place. I wish you could see our beautiful grandchildren and how they have grown! Somehow I believe you can see them. I know we will be together again. In the meantime please keep looking down and watching over us all. I will always love you!

My darling Steve, you are so very loved and missed. As the date approaches when you left this world five years ago, I am recalling those last very sad days you were with us. I know you cannot even remember that suffering now. I wish I could be with you if only for a short while and see what your eyes are seeing, most especially, the face of God! We miss you, we miss you, we miss you! But you have sent me a sense of peace that you are in a better place, yet still with us. You still love all of us, and one day we'll be together again. Thank you for watching over all of us, my love!

In August 1988, as a young german exchange student I arrive in Detroit, Michigan. For the next almost 12 months I was about to spend my life with the Rainney Family.
This year was one of the best I`ve ever had. Steve, Susan, and their children Tia, Jo and Rob shared their life with me, made me feel at home and let me be a part of their family.
I left in the summer of 1989 and cried almost the whole flight back to germany.
For a few years we stayed in touch, then we lost contact.
In 2008 I had the idea to look for my american familiy in the internet, just googled them and found this website. I sent an email to the Hamilton Memorial Chapel, asking them to send my message to Susan. They did (thank you so much) and this way I found my american familiy again. Too late though, cause my Dad had died just a few months before.
I love you guys, Mom, Tia, Jo, Rob, I am really blessed that I had the chance to become part of your family. I miss u, and I am so happy the internet gives us the possebility to stay in touch.
And Dad, it was just a year, and it seems so long ago. Yet it feels as if it was yesterday. I miss you, and I wished I`d have had the chance to see you once again.
If there is a heaven, I know you are there. You deserve it. RIP Dad.

I woke up at 4:30 today, dreaming of 42 years ago. It was your 20th birthday, my Love! I was seventeen and we had recently learned our little baby was on the way. Rob would be born in December. This was the day Uncle Sam called you in to join the Army. We both hated it... But it was necessary. It was during the Vietnam War and I was so afraid of losing you. You wouldn't let me go to the bus station with you to say goodbye. You hated public goodbyes and didn't want me to be upset. My Dad drove you down to Detroit and our separation for the next few months was excrutiating to me! Now, you are in heaven and we are separated again, for a time. I miss you, my Darling, and I always will. I love you.
